It’s common knowledge that breakfast is the important meal of the day. And again, it’s common knowledge that mornings are extremely lazy. Eating all the right foods but at the wrong time is counterintuitive and an exercise in futility. Believe it or not, there are some foods that seem healthy, that we really shouldn’t be eating on an empty stomach.
Here are some the foods to avoid, and some alternatives to ensure your start to the day is healthy and satisfying.
Citrus fruits such as grapefruits, lemons and oranges are rich in vitamin C, but they aren’t the best breakfast choice because their acidity might cause heartburn and increase your risk of gastritis and gastric ulcers.
Generally speaking, spicy foods are useful for your health, but if you eat spicy dishes in the morning, they can cause irritations of your digestive system and result in gastric mucosa damage and heartburn.
Sugar is an easily digestible food. When you eat sugar on an empty stomach, your body cannot produce enough insulin to keep up the normal level of sugar in blood. It can cause different eye diseases. Moreover, sugar is an acid-forming food, which is able to break the acid-base balance.
If you consume bananas for breakfast on an empty stomach, you will increase the levels of magnesium in the blood, and cause heart problems. So they are not the best choice for breakfast and we advise you to eat it along with honey, nuts and blueberries.
5).Carbonated Beverages and Sodas
Carbonated drinks and sodas are the worst choice you can make for your breakfast because they are rich in sugar and will slow your metabolism and cause bloating.
Green veggies aren’t the best breakfast option too, because they are high in amino acids that cause flatulence and heartburn. Furthermore, they can irritate you stomach and cause abdominal pain.
Tomatoes contain tannic acid that can irritate the stomach and cause heartburn and gastric ulcers, so postpone tomato consumption til lunch.
No. just don’t. That croissant with nutella on the top of it surely looks delicious but do you know that’s full of yeast? And yeast causes flatulence. Yikes. And it’s not even healthy. Why would you do that to yourself? Go grab your oatmeal.
9).Coffee or Tea
Coffee and tea may improve wakefulness, but relying on caffeine isn’t a great idea, as it actually works as a diuretic that will leave you feeling dehydrated and sluggish. Caffeine can also increase anxiety, raise blood pressure, and cause mood swings.
Plus, coffee is acidic and can worsen acid reflux, ulcers, and other digestive issues. But you don’t have to cut out coffee and tea completely, just drink it after a hearty breakfast instead of before.
Similar to tomatoes, sweet potatoes also contain tannin and pectin acid. Aside from creating ‘stomach stones’, it also forces your stomach to secrete more gastric acid, leading to heartburn, gastric pain, and other forms of discomfort.
Eating sweets can boost your insulin levels, and significantly increase the load on your pancreas. This may lead to diabetes.
Garlic contains allicin, which stimulate the stomach and intestines. It can cause a gastrospasm.
This popular breakfast side can contain lots of protein and healthy levels of yeast. When eaten on an empty stomach, the acid in your belly kills any healthy benefits the yeast might offer turning your healthy breakfast choice into a container of fruit-flavored sugar.
This may seem like an odd food to avoid on an empty stomach, but the fiber in a pear can cause major stomach aches, and damage the mucus membrane in your stomach. Pair it with oatmeal or another grain to protect your stomach.
Consuming unsalted nuts on an empty stomach will help to regulate the pH level of your stomach, to ensure that it is not acidic but more alkaline in nature. Nuts will also aid digestion and prevent constipation and indigestion.
